My TV show is called Trust Issues. It is about four university students that live together in an apartment in London. They discover someone is messing with them and murdering people so they investigate who it is. The genre is a thriller/romance because I wanted the show to be enjoyable to watch for everyone.
The representations in my TV show differ a lot from those in
The Apartment. For starters, gender is represented in The Apartment by showing
men have more power than women. They show this by having more men as lead roles
and they also show only men to have a high, important and powerful job in the
office Baxter works at. This shows gender isn't equal when it comes to jobs as women are not seen as intelligent compared to men.
In 1960 when the 'The Apartment' was filmed, the lead roles would be acted by mostly men. Not many women would get a lead role but when they do, the film or series would fail the Bechdel test nearly every time However in this day and time, there have been more women lead roles and films and TV shows and would also pass the Bechdel test more often. This shows tat equality for gender has improved massively in the last 60 years. This has influenced the choice I have made in my pitch because I have made two man characters to be female and my show passes the Bechdel test.
My TV show has male and female main characters to represent equality in gender. I wanted to have a strong female character to be a role model to young women to show that your gender doesn't affect how successful you want to be in your career.
I have decided to make my TV show a hybrid because i waned more than one genre. The genres that has influenced me in creating my TV show is thriller and romance. I have chosen thriller as a genre to use the action and gory scenes to pleasure the audience so they don't get bored. I have used romance to show a romantic side to the characters which should pleasure the audience as they will be interested in the characters love stories.
To make my TV show unique, I wrote the story line to show each episode is focused on a different character each time. This allows the viewer to have a further understanding of the characters. I also made the genre to be a thriller and romance. This is because not many films or TV shows have both these genres together so I thought it would make it interesting if I combined this genres together in my TV show.

I have used genre conventions to help attract an audience for my TV show by using props such as blood and weapons to represent the genre thriller. I have also included actions scenes to create suspense which will attract the audience.
To plan my TV show, I used my understanding of narrative
structure. I chose the story line by deciding which genre I wanted the show to
be. Once I did this, I then made character profiles so that I would understand
what each character’s personalities were and can see what will happen to them
by the end of the series. I know that conflict had to take place in my show at
one point so the audience wouldn’t get bored and would draw them in. I realised
this in 'The Apartment' because halfway through the film conflict takes place caused a turning point to take place in the film. So, I decided to place the conflict
half way through the series so that there is time for the conflict to take
place and for it to be resolved. I had the resolution take place at the end of
the series because I wanted the drama from the conflict to build up so it
causes the audience to feel tense and interested to how it will be resolved.
I have took the structure from the film 'The Apartment' and used it to help structure my TV show. I made sure to have a turning point half way through the series because i liked how in 'The Apartment' it made the first and second half of the film different to each other which kept the audience interested. I also us conflict in my series because I makes the show entertaining and it makes the audience waiting to watch more too see the resolution. i noticed this whist watching 'The Apartment'. This film has chain of events as a lot of the stuff happens which affects the story line. For example, it has Fran attempting suicide, Baxter getting promotion and stood up by Fran, Shelnick leaving his wife for ran, Baxter quitting his job. I have took these chain of events and used them in a a similar way in y TV show. I did this by having someone bring murdered, couples breaking up and the police get involved.
To set the mood in my title sequence, I used cold colours such as blue, white and grey. This indicates the show is a thriller because cold colours represent dullness and sadness. I used the image of two hands holding cigarettes because this shows the characters may be rebellious as its a bad habit to have. It also shows the TV series is not suitable for children. I also used an image of London which is a skyline. This tells the audience where it is set. The text for the TV sow title is in the center of the title sequence. I used a basic font so the audience ca read it clearly.
